CamGuess is an online game: you watch a live webcam and guess where it is. This page explains what data we process and why. We collect as little as possible, we never sell your data, and there are no ads or tracking tools on the site.
Playing without an account
You can play without an account. If you save a score, we keep the name you choose, your score and the details of each round (webcams played, distances, points), which appear on the public leaderboard. Your name is also remembered in your browser (local storage) so you don't have to type it again.
Player account
Creating an account is optional. Depending on how you sign in, we receive:
- Sign in with Google: your email address, name and Google profile picture. We never have access to your Google password.
- Sign in with email: your email address, to which we send a one-time sign-in code.
This data is only used to identify you in the game. Your sign-in session is kept in your browser (local storage).
Technical data
Like any website, our servers receive your IP address in order to respond to requests. When a daily game limit applies, we use an encrypted fingerprint (hash) of that address, never the address itself, to count the day's games.
Payments
If a paid subscription is offered, payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we only keep the status of your subscription.
Service providers
- Supabase (database and accounts, servers in Ireland)
- Vercel (website hosting)
- Google (Sign in with Google)
- Resend (sign-in emails)
- Stripe (payments, if applicable)
- PostHog (audience measurement: pages viewed and clicks, servers in the EU)
To display the game, your browser also loads content directly from third-party services, which therefore receive your IP address: webcam streams (Windy, YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode and other public broadcasters), map tiles (Esri, OpenStreetMap) and local weather (Open-Meteo).
Data retention
Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Scores stay on the leaderboard while the game is online, unless you ask us to delete them.
Children
CamGuess is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
CamGuess is operated from France and complies with the GDPR. Wherever you live, you can ask to access, correct or delete your data (account and scores), or object to its processing, by emailing contact@camguess.com. EU residents can also lodge a complaint with their data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).
